Some Limpopo Agriculture Department officials had their salaries increased by 80 percent before the payments were stopped.
No action has been taken against 15 officials in the Limpopo Agriculture Department, despite allegations that they had unduly inflated their salary notches.
The department stopped the payment of the inflated salaries last month after the government’s Persal system had picked up the anomaly.
Officials implicated in the alleged wrongdoing include a top bureaucrat, a general manager, a senior manager and middle-level managers.
Department spokesman Kenny Mathivha said last month that the officials had tricked MEC Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba into approving the salary increase because she had thought it would be a once-off performance bonus payout.
On Thursday, however, department head Edward Nesamvuni denied Mathivha’s assertion when he accepted a memorandum of grievances from department employees who want the implicated officials to be suspended.
Nesamvuni said he had approved the salary increase for the 15 officials. The payments had since been stopped.
Some of the officials had their salaries increased by 80 percent before the payments were stopped last month.
The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union and the Public Servants Association have accused Nesamvuni of having fraudulently colluded with the officials. - The Star

Mr President - your colleagues in Limpopo have clearly challenged you and your numerous utterances stating that you and your regime will ensure a clean administration. Are you going to take the necessary action against these individuals - or simply continue to act like the proverbial ostrich - and bury your head in the sand?....Now there's a thought - Ju-Ju can become an ostrich farmer - he already understands the behaviour...and he has a strong Limpopo support base.

1st case for the newly formed CorruptionWatch, a Cosatu initiative. Suspended is not good enough - they must pay back the money. How long did they receive the inflated salaries for?

@Nkwali Ngewu: I agree 100%. Being "tricked" is not only a unacceptable excuse that someone hopes allows them to retain their job, on the contrary, it is even MORE reason that you should immediately be removed from your position, since clearly you are so incompetent that you are easily "tricked!"

What else did she sign without reading the fine print? She should be held liable for this wasteful expenditure, had it not been her signature this would not have happened.

Not surprisingly, this is just the tip of the iceberg. A small municipality such as Bushbuck Ridge is missing R1 million. Now the Mayor has instituted an in depth investigation, he has received death threats. Result. Another 6 bodyguards. What is surprising is that no one seems to realise that this sort of corruption and theft of public funds will eventually bankrupt our country. Another thing the public have not yet discovered is that every time there is a shortfall the price of petrol goes up. Nothing to do with oil prices, just another means of meeting the constant theft of public money and replenishing the coffers.
