South Africa's athletes arrived at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

As they were on their way to passport control, airport staff were clearing the international arrivals terminal of all passengers who had disembarked from their flights, ahead of the athletes coming to greet the crowd of supporters outside the terminal.

Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya was waiting for the athletes inside the terminal.

"I'm here to support our team and to say halala to the three heroes, including Caster," she said.

As the minister spoke to Sapa shouts of delight came from the opposite end of the terminal as staff and tired passengers recognised the country's new sporting heroes as they made their way across the terminal.
