Baboon case reopened - report

SAPA+|Published

A man who allegedly replaced in photographs the faces of his employees with those of baboons will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court for crimen injuria, the Sowetan reported.

The five men - Prince Makhubela, Steven Moeketsi, Lovemore Mchube, Michael Khumalo and Moshe Ramahlo - laid a case against their supervisor, Harry McGarry at Skycare Maintenance in Lanseria for the incident in 2005.

But the case, opened in Muldersdrift, was struck off the roll due to lack of evidence.

Now the Director of Public Prosecutions has reopened the case, overturning the previous decision.

“We are hopeful that after the trial we will secure a conviction,” National Prosecutions Authority spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga told the newspaper.

McGarry apologised for the incident last week, but denied he had replaced the faces in the photograph with those of baboons.

He has been summonsed to appear in court on March 28. - Sapa
