Three men were arrested on Wednesday after allegedly hijacking a truck-load of motor oil in Benoni on the East Rand, police said.
Superintendent Chris Wilken said three men hijacked the freight truck carrying R50 000 worth of motor oil while the driver was doing deliveries around the East Rand at 2pm.
The truck was later spotted by police in Roodepoort on Main Reef road, through a tracker company.
"It was stationary at the time and there was no one inside," said Wilken.
It emerged that the men had parked the bakkie there and jumped into a Ford Bantam which was spotted on Main Reef road heading towards Johannesburg.
The men, aged between 30 and 35, were forced off the road and arrested near the High Gate Shopping Mall.
Wilken said they were being detained at the Roodepoort police station until their appearance in court on Friday, on charges of stolen property and hijacking. - Sapa
